The current approach isn\u2019t working. Public dollars are spent year after year, yet the crisis deepens. That has to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s my approach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Rent Stabilization<\/strong>: Cap excessive rent hikes to protect working families from being priced out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tenant Protections<\/strong>: Provide legal support, enforce fair eviction policies, and give tenants the opportunity to buy buildings before they\u2019re sold to outside investors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Encouraging Affordable Housing Development<\/strong>: Partner with nonprofit and community-driven developers to build housing that people can actually afford. Reform zoning laws to allow for a broader mix of housing types, like duplexes, triplexes, and courtyard homes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Focus on Impact, Not Optics<\/strong>: Target support toward those ready to engage with services, ensuring resources aren\u2019t wasted where there\u2019s no path forward.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Protect Taxpayer Dollars<\/strong>: Help those who want help and be honest about what\u2019s not working. We can\u2019t afford to spend endlessly on systems that don\u2019t produce results.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Expand Low-Barrier Shelter Options<\/strong>: Provide safe, clean transitional spaces that lead to permanent housing, not just temporary fixes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Strengthen Outreach<\/strong>: Use trained teams to build trust, connect individuals with services, and follow through with ongoing support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We owe it to our unhoused neighbors, our communities, and our taxpayers to make every dollar count; make every outcome matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My top priorities are restoring&nbsp;affordable housing, strengthening&nbsp;tenant protections, improving&nbsp;local government transparency, and ensuring&nbsp;inclusive, community-centered leadership.
